Summary/Abstract: The symbolistic poem ‘Song of the songs’ (1923) of Theodor Traianov represents an ‘indirect dialogue’ of the poet with the religious-philosophical fragments of Soren Kierkegaard. The triad of subjective experience and the concepts of the original sin and of self-sacrifice (presented in the Danish philosopher's works Fear and Trembling, Stages o n Life's Way, and The Edification Which Lies In The Fact That In Relation To God We Are Always In The Wrong) provoked Traianov into designing a specific philosophical-religious project about the mission of the artist, the intellectual, the new man, the knight of faith. The cultural and historical significance of the poem consists in the creation of a model of self-sacrifice different from that of Pencho Slaveikov – a model of spiritual leadership in the name of the Divine and the future of mankind.
