Information activity of the Provincial and Municipal Library in Gorzów Wielkopolski

Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the information service as one of the foremost tasks of the Provincial and Municipal Public Library in Gorzów Wielkopolski (WiMBP). Since its inception (1992), its employees in their statistical reports present the amount of information provided to the users. Information-related activities are covered by all departments, agencies and branches of the library. It should be noted, however, that separate information centres have been created in WiMBP, characterized by the transfer and presence of specialized thematic information. Visitors to these departments receive good quality information on the region, tourism, the European Union, France, the United States of America, minorities, business and economy. Processes changing the image of the library such as computerization, e-collections, OPAC, the website, have contributed to its opening to the needs of a new generation. WiMBP in Gorzów Wielkopolski is an example of an efficient hybrid library where next to traditional paper resources digital collections and electronic resources are available. In this way, the library widens its information scope to reach readers of all ages.
