Summary/Abstract: Communicating means of the Internet make it possible to disseminate our thoughts, views, and the effects of our actions faster and spread them more widely than ever before. The Internet today has become a site of competition, where the aim is to acquire an elevated status based on the number of “clicks” our texts receive, “likes” our pictures get, and “hype” the songs we post receive. One of a number of available communication strategies are usually used to gain a presence on the Internet and attain celebrity status. These include: an I-information strategy, a visual-aesthetic strategy, an intertextual provocation strategy, and a strategy of ignorance, each of which involves using specific tools to obtain a larger audience for our actions. The article describes the verbal and visual techniques of influence most commonly used on the Internet, the aim of which is to increase one’s popularity, which carries with it a variety of benefits.
