Summary/Abstract: Far from being a “mere” bildungroman, “The Pyramid” follows, in Golding’s specific style, the clearing up of the two notions “good” and “evil” in the consciousness of man still in formation. The two values represent basic elements on which the structure of the world and of the universe is based. In my paper I tried an original presentation of William Golding’s novel “The Pyramid”, that is the point of interest in my analysis was good-evil in the inner side of the character, and not necessarily the biographic and autobiographic character of the literary work. I focused my attention on the process of maturing regarded as a result of an inner conflict between opposites of the type truth-illusion, innocence-sin, typical for Golding’s literary works.I tried to demonstrate the existence of a certain optimism of the vision, despite the gloomy ending of the novel. The analysis was strongly based on the original text, the opinions and the considerations being sustained with quotations from the proper work with critical references.
