Summary/Abstract: Academic dishonesty is intentional participation in deceptive practices regarding one’s academic work and it has become a wide-spread problem among adolescents. The major reason of cheating behavior is competition for better grade point averages. Achieve-ment motivation appears to be negatively affected by an increasing focus on performance, heightened competition among class-mates, loss of involvement in decision-making and impersonal relationships with teachers. Even if cheating is a violation of the norms of schooling, it has an adaptive increment by teaching the youth to plan and liaise social acts and avoid frustrating situations.
