Summary/Abstract: In Dunărea district, Galaţi, archeological salvage operations led to the discovery of the greatest Roman necropolis of Southern Moldavia. The necropolis dates back to A.D. 150-250. At the foot of the hillside there is the group of the cremation tombs (busta type) which were destroyed by constructors employed by the Town Hall of Galaţi, while excavating in 2003.Tomb no. 5 belongs to this cathegory. Halfway the hill there are tombs of mixed rite: cremation an inhumation. The inhumation tomb no. 49 belonged to a Christian who had a strigilis decored with two fish.It dates back to the 1st half of the 3rd century A.D. High above the hill there is an area containing only inhumation tombs of Christian influence dating back to the half of the 3rd century A.D.
