Importance of education for economic growth – a review of research

Summary/Abstract: One of the most important questions asked by economists are issues concerning the determinants of economic growth. Since the 60s analyzed models of economic growth has been assigning a major role to human capital and in particular the important role of education, which is financed by the public sector. The article contains a review of research on the importance of education for economic growth and the analysis was based on three criteria. First, it summarizes the research taking into account the amount of years of schooling and their impact on the economic growth. Second, it reviews studies that examined the relation between the economic growth and the quality of education. Third, it analyses studies which demonstrate the importance of education and the rise of technology for the economic growth. The objective of this article is to attempt to identify which factor is most important, and has the greatest impact on the economic growth.
