Summary/Abstract: The Catholic Action in Slovakia was officially promulgated in 1926. Its major task was to concentrate and reorganize all works in the Catholic Church. Since the beginning, board of Slovak bishops strove to initiate development of the Catholic Action. Therefore they constituted its consultative and central committees which ought to have promoted ideas of Catholic Action in practise as well as became the core of all catholic work. In the period of 1926 – 1948 worked in Slovakia several central committees of the Catholic Action. They worked as consultative organs for Episcopal conference and they stood directly under the bishops. The chair of these committees was held by bishops themselves and also the members were mostly bishops and priests. Their work was divided into individual commissions, sections or departments, which provided professional advices and directed the Catholic Action in particular scopes. In 1948 were the central committees of the Catholic Action cancelled and the whole Catholic Action in Slovakia was interrupted.
