Summary/Abstract: Until recently, the family has been considered as a fundamental social unit. Contemporary philosophical trends, especially those related to gender, gradually put an end to the traditional concept of family built on the foundations of Roman and Christian culture. European constitutions still remain a reflection of the existing family model, which, however, are also subject to change under the pressure of new trends of thought propagated in great measure by the media and politicians. Analysis of the twelve EU constitutions shows that in the near future the high pressure on the amendment of the constitutions of these countries towards an adjustment to the new trends of thought should be expected.
