Summary/Abstract: The article shows the attempts of the German thinker Walter Benjamin to overcome shortcomings of linear reproduction of the past through the statement of «the recall moment», methodology of which is comparable with technology of an instant picture in the photo. It was the ability «to set fire to magnesium powder» and the critical analysis of the recorded that helped Benjamin with creation of «The Berlin chronicle» with its image of the bourgeois city of the end of the 19th — the beginning of the 20th centuries.
