Summary/Abstract: Renal transplantation is, beside peritoneal dialysis and haemodialysis, an accepted method of renal replacement therapy, in patients with terminal renal failure. The first successful renal transplantation between monozygotic twins was performed by dr. J. Murray in Boston, 50 years ago. The first such procedure in Poland, also successful, was carried out in Warsaw in 1966. The article presents medical and legal regulations associated with transplantation of this organ.
