Summary/Abstract: Energetic and vibrant civil society is an important prerequisite for Macedonia on its way towards integration with EU family. The development of this feature of the societal life is within the scope of the stabilization and association process, which is the cornerstone of the EU policy in the region. The most recent comprehensive analysis that encompasses all exiting relevant information is being conducted within CIVICUS Civil Society Index for Macedonia. The author of this paper, being a member of the national research team for Macedonia has used CIVICUS research findings to give an overview of the level of development of Civil Society in Macedonia and to pinpoint the main areas and systems which may and should be improved in order to enhance the role of the civil society in achieving EU integration aspirations.
