About Becoming a Modern Prophet /Fortuneteller/ Clairvoyant from the Village of Smilian, Municipality of Smolyan

Summary/Abstract: This article aims to present and analyze the process of transformation from an ordinary person into a fortune teller. The basis used the life stories of a soothsayer and prophetess from the village of Smilian, municipality of Smolyan. Based on the autobiographical narrative and structured ethnographic interview the article monitored key moments that marked her process of becoming a prophet with supernatural abilities. The story is analyzed and addressed into the context of the broader range of economic, social, historical, religious and confessional circumstances that accompany modern life of people in the village of Smilian. The main thesis is that the circumstances of social, economic and others. aspects invoke the need of prophecies and healing. This need is filled by the becoming of fortune teller and healer from the village of Smilian.
