Summary/Abstract: The paper considers the insufficiently studied aspect of entrance into European medievalism by P. Bicilli (1879–1953), the Russian historian-emigrant. The tragedy of P. Bicilli, “the outstanding scientist with the undistinguished destiny”, who wanted to settle in Italy, but found himself on the outskirts of the Russian Diaspora in Bulgaria is studied. The works and papers of P. Bicilli, as well as the reviews of his works published during the first half of the 20th century in the leading historical journals of France, along with M. Bloch and G. Lefebvre, the outstanding representatives of the French historiography of the 20th century, are reviewed. It is established that Russian ideas were introduced to European humanities by F. Baldensperger, the French literary comparatist, as well as by V.N. Zabugin and A. Kizevetter, the Russian historian-emigrants. The problem is raised about establishment of the citation index of the French translation of P. Bicilli’s book “La place de la Renaissance dans l’histoire de la civilisation” (1934). It is suggested that French medievalists were familiar with P. Bicilli’s original concept of the Middle Ages and Renaissance. This hypothesis is based on some similarities discovered by the author between the ideas of P. Bacilli and Jacques Le Goff, the French medievalist.
