Summary/Abstract: The article is an attempt at determining the impact of the global economic crisis on the effects of the functioning of selected special economic zones (SEZ) in Poland. The study involved four SEZs functioning in the northern and north-western macro-regions (NUTS 1). The article includes analyses of alterations in e.g. the number of valid permits for conducting economic activities in the zones, the investment expenditures incurred by entrepreneurs or the employment rate. The research period spans from 2005 to 2013.
