AN EPISODE FROM THE HISTORY OF SALVA PARISH (1891)

Summary/Abstract: In this study, the author presents an important moment from the history of theSalva Greek-Catholic parish, Bistriţa-Năsăud County: the election of the new priest in1891. This moment generated a correspondence between the villagers, the Vicariate ofRodna and the bishop of Gherla. One hundred thirty-seven villagers wrote a request tothe bishop in order to propose Gavrilă Petri, which was born in Salva. They also promisedto the bishop Ioan Alexi that, if their request is not solved, all of them will becamepart of the Orthodox Church. Finally, after negotiations, the villagers accepted in theirparish the priest Basiliu Dumbravă, named by the ecclesiastic authorities from Gherla.The author begins with a short presentation of the problem and then he presentsthe most important documents from the history of the Salva parish.
