Aspects Concerning Activity of Alba Regional Museum (1939-1940) Mirrored in the Archive of Mureș District

Summary/Abstract: Research of a valuable fund, documentary fund of Mureş district from Alba County Directorate of National Archives resulted in identification of some important documents referring to the manner by which the museum from Alba Iulia functioned, between 1938 and 1940. Documents referring to the museum from Alba Iulia reflect its legal status, during the mentioned period, respectively the manner by which the institution enjoyed not only political-administrative trust of Mureş District, but, even special attention of the royal resident of the District, General Dănilă Papp. Thematically they mainly refer to enriching the Documentary Library of the institution, the Financial Department of the district by which the museum depended in the absence of own budget, accepting spending some important amounts of money for purchasing specialised literature in Romanian or foreign languages, but also restoration of some older books and purchasing of some registers for inventorying the held book fund. The content of documents enclosed in the file from the fund of Mureş District also refers to special concern of Ion Berciu to increase the held heritage. Conservation and preservation measures in proper conditions are taken for the whole documentary archive of the museum, new pieces are purchased, new areas are rented for their preservation, surveys are made. Other documents of the file refer to strict administrative issues of the institution, concerning exchange of its name, purchasing office stationary, envelops, stamps but also those necessary for maintaining the exhibition halls, repairing electrical installation and heating the held area.
