Summary/Abstract: The speech of Srebrenica’s Bosniacs may be interesting from several aspects. One of them is the issue of replacing the long yat, i.e. the question of the possibility of appearance of Ekavian pronunciation in long syllables, the second issue is its dialectal background, the third is its actuality and vitality with respect to executed genocide, displacement and reduced number of native speakers, and all of these are united by insufficiently researched spoken idiom. The aim of this paper is to show that assumptions about Ekavian-Jekavian replacement of yat in speech of Srebrenica’s Bosniacs, which have been reported in the literature about the Bosnian speeches, are unfounded, type dete – djeca.
