Summary/Abstract: Topic related to the relationship between music and identity is known in ethnomusicology since the eighties of the twentieth century. The fact is that the ability to place individuals within a particular social group has been provided by listening and creating of music, but on the other hand, it can be said that music is an active factor in the construction of culture and identity, especially when it has a traditional attribute. This paper will be focused on the role of musical repertoire of Kosovo in the formation of multiple identities through different performances of the song Udade se Živka Sirinićka. The paper is based on the interviews with leading performers of folk and ethnic music – Jordan Nikolic, representatives of the group “Belo platno” – Vladimir Simic and Dragica Radosavljevic Cakana, and central place for interpretation of problem is performing a social history of the song Udade se Živka Sirinićka, as well as a description of the way of its transmission, with which a formal and structural analysis have been associated, from which the conclusions about the connection between identity and music have been made, using as an example this Kosovo song. On which way is the Kosovo song presented and how it can carry certain meanings regarding the identity are the main issues raised in the paper, on which will be answered through the aspect of space and time, the specifics of the song and its performance, through the place in society, relation of performer to this song and repertoire of Kosovo songs in general and the place that this song, according to the experience of the performers, have in a musical culture of Serbia.
