Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the main periods of political cooperation between Ukraine and Japan from 1991 until 2016. It contains explanation of the periodization criteria and characteristics of each stage of the bilateral relations. Despite the emphasis of the article on the political aspect, it highlights results of cooperation in economic as well as scientific and technical areas. The article provides a viewon perspectives and recommendations for further development of relationships between Ukraine and Japan.
