Summary/Abstract: The article describes the beginnings and the contemporary picture of psychoanalysis and its keyrepresentatives who addressed the issues connected with education and upbringing in Poland andother countries. It presents critical views on psychoanalysis and its selected negative outcomes ineducational practices on the basis of contemporary pedagogical thought and the relations of psychoanalysiswith transactional analysis, which are frequently ambiguous and controversial. Educationaltransactional analysis, together with psychoanalysis, can become inspirational and useful areasoffering effective solutions in pedagogical theory and practice.
