Summary/Abstract: Bulgaria’s image as shown at international fairs is a result of the interaction of a number of factors. The role of an architect and a designer in shaping an overall visual representation is crucial. Apart from the particular artistic insight into Bulgaria’s participation in the 1937 Paris International Exhibition, the policies of public procurement, the interaction between various institutions in charge, the mounting of the event, etc., have been analysed and drawn to deal with the issue. A conclusion is reached that an institutional authority (the role of the National Academy of Art in this particular case) is indispensable to the creative process of conceiving and designing major events and sites. The reception and the effect of Bulgaria’s participation in the international fair are also considered as well as publications and commentaries in the press.Bulgaria’s image as shown at international fairs is a result of the interaction of a number of factors.
