Summary/Abstract: Over the recent dramatic years of social destruction in Bulgaria, authors, funds and technical resources happened to turn out to produce good documentaries. This is true first of all of the historical docus seeking to offer in their own right an updated and adequate interpretation of the past. Familiarizing with historical knowledge is vital to the present and the progress towards the future. The subject matters and the issues dealt with in such films are treated from the vantage point of history through intriguing interpretations offered by their authors. Presently, these films are speaking in a serious tone, rather than assuming the histrionic tone typical of the genre in the past. The emphasis has shifted from extolment onto contemplation and drawing parallels with various areas of the present social life. These works provide scientific knowledge and new information, raising associations and having in their screenplays literary inversions and turns, which are achieved onscreen in a purely representational manner.
