Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to present a novel educational scheme based on the so called „original play” as implemented by international school exchange programme conducting Education for Peace project whose participants were Polish and Austrian children. The authors of the paper describe the experience connected with original play in the light of European approach to education including learning through experience and learning to live in a community. The exchange described in the paper meets the demands and challenges of contemporary education and life in united Europe together with its problems such as aggression, violence, lack of tolerance and respect to the Other or cross-cultural integration. Original play sees childhood as a valuable stage in the development and learning process of the human being and a source of humanistic values. The authors try to focus on the neglected and underestimated role of children in removing cultural, language and social barriers and show how original play creates conditions that are fundamental for developing and sustaining world peace.
