Summary/Abstract: The practice of Initiation to the Sacraments in Byzantine tradition comes from the early ages of Christianity. Starting from the first Christian generations, the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist, which in the theology of the Eastern Christian tradition were called mysteries, are administered during the same liturgical rituals that form one and integral liturgical practice. Though there are some differences with Roman Catholic liturgical rituals, the faithful of the Byzantine liturgy get the same sacramental graces. One of the most important features of administering and receiving the Sacraments of Initiation is that they are administered to children. The baptized later receive the Holy Eucharist according to the rules of the Magisterium of the Church.
