Summary/Abstract: Following Bessarabia’s annexation to the Russian Empire, this region witnessed a process of alteration of the ethnical structure of Bessarabia’s population. The issue of the organisation of the Greek community has only been tangentially analysed, being determined by the involvement of the political factor, as well as by the small number of Greeks in Bessarabia, by the absence of purely Greek colonies. This issue was analysed in the Romanian historiography also, in the interwar time, a series of studies being published, signed by Ion Nistor, P. Cazacu, P. Gore, who based their works on the statistical data of 1817 as well as the on the previous studies made by P. Koppen and I. Hallipa. From the presented documentary materials, we can come to the conclusion that the essential factors in the demographic evolution of the Greek community are political and economic. The political aspect was determined mainly by the policy of the Tsarist authorities which stimulated the arrival of the new colonists, favouring especially the migration of the representatives of several ethnic groups, Greeks also.
