Summary/Abstract: This is the first of a series of three articles surveying Lithuanian research on creative society. It discusses what has shown up to essentially characteristerize the conception of the creative. These characteristics in both academic science and art are exhibited. It is maintained that the contemporaty creative-technological time, or the currently striving-to-emerge creative society, can be fruitfully understood by invoking the concepts of Bergsonian élan vital and Heideggerian Ge-stell (and that related one of subiectum). The conception of the creative, which substantiates both scientific and artistic activity, is to be related to various manifestions of subjectity, i.e. to the derivation of actuality from subjectist creativity. Also, this conception merges the essential distinctions of modernity (such as rationality and irrationality etc.) and strives for a merging of separated regions of creativity into the development of (the reflection over) technological-creativity.
