Summary/Abstract: This article reviews the peculiarities of Lithuanian ethnographic photography from the middle of 19th until 20st c.c. On the basis of research methodology in visual anthropology, the paper analyzes the development of Lithuanian ethnographic photography. The problem is how visual images are used to produce ethnographic knowledge in ethnographic photography. The work is based on two groups of sources – Lithuanian photographers’ collections and albums from the middle of 19th until 20th c.c. The questions posed by the author are as follows: What was the development of Lithuanian ethnographic photography from the middle of 19th until 20th c.c.?; What are the peculiarities of Lithuanian ethnographic photography in the context of visual anthropology?
