Summary/Abstract: Research has come to play an increasingly important role in the development of economic and other activities. All countries, especially the richer ones, spend increasing sums on founding and expanding research institutions and increasing research in commerce and industry. Not only do they make increasing sums available for research, but they also pay special attention to the organization and management of research institutions and the establishment of closer links between them and* other sectors of activity, primarily commerce and industry.
