Summary/Abstract: Viktoras Vizgirda was born in 1904 in Dominikoniai (Kaunas region) and died in 1993 in Cape Code, the USA. From 1920 till 1922, he studied in the drawing studio of Justinas Vienožinskis. From 1922 till 1926 he studied in Kaunas Arts School. After the graduation, Vizgirda had one year internship at André Lhote Academy in Paris. In 1928 he came back to Lithuania and, until 1940, taught drawing in the high schools of Raseiniai and Pagėgiai, Kaunas Handicraft School and Decoration Courses. From 1937 till 1938 he was a head of the Lithuanian Artists’ Union; from 1941 till 1943 he was a director of Vilnius Arts Academy and a member of the Independent Artists’ Group and “Ars”. In 1944 he left for the West and lived in Vienna, Tubingen, Berlin, and Freiburg. In Freiburg Vizgirda was a director of the Handicraft School (Ecole des Arts et Métiers) a head of its painting studio. In 1947 he initiated there the establishment of the Lithuanian Arts Institute and became its first chairman. In 1950, he left for the USA and settled in Boston. From 1951 till 1966 he worked in stained glass studio and was a member of many societies and associations. From 1930, Vizgirda took part in all exhibitions organized by the Independent Artists’ Group, “Ars” Group, and the Lithuanian Artists’ Union. Also the personal exhibitions in Boston, Chicago, Vilnius (1966, 1993), Paežeriai (1998), Kaunas (2004) were organized.
