Summary/Abstract: Adomas Jacovskis, a painter and stage desinger, is a contenporary developer of the Litvak’s fine arts tradition. He was born in 1948 in Vilnius. In 1973, Jacovskis graduated from the Lithuanian Art Institute (scenography and painting). In 1977, he worked as a painter at the Lithuanian Television. From 1978 till 1993, Jacovskis was a chief stage designer of Youth Theatre. Since 1989, he is a professor of Vilnius Academy of Arts. since 1976, he takes part in various exhibitions and projects in Lithuania and abroad; creates more than 80 stage designs, paints portraits (Marius with paper cap in 1981, Actor V. Bagdonas in 1984, Rehersal in 1987), compositions (Kings profile in 1988, Face-Mask in 1990, Voyager I–III in 1990–1993, Red Head in 1998, Water Carrier in 2001, and others). After 1990, minimalism and abstract space dominate in his works in which the traits of the Litvak’s fine arts stylistics are manifest. Adomas Jacovskis is a laureate of the National Lithuanian Arts and Culture Award (2000) and a chevalier of the Order of the Cross of the Knight of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas (2006).
