Summary/Abstract: The ethical context in which the stories Brat and Łowy by Emilia Kiereś are clearly rooted – especially considering the literary expectations of a young reader – allows the phenomenon of imagination also to be observed and discussed in terms of humanistic values, which are a very important aspect of Polish studies. In Kiereś’s works, the power of imagination of the protagonists and the crossing of its boundaries are a sort of ethical imperative that motivates the heroes into action. In both stories by Emilia Kiereś, which are deeply rooted in the poetic of the fairy tale, fantasy and folk tale, the Romantic experience of existence, the mystery of nature, and the characters themselves appear in the context of ethical values. Therefore, in addition to the convention of the Romantic fairy tale, both stories also take the genealogical form of a parable.
