Summary/Abstract: In recent decades, the increased scientific interest the development of urban formations in the context of the rapid progress of planetary processes. In the context of globalization and transnationalization, the so-called global cities, which are emerging as the most important points of world economic relations and international relations, are gaining more and more weight in the world system. The author examines the demographic problems of global cities of the first order, which represent the highest "command structure" in a single transnational urban system of the world (London, New York, Paris and Tokyo), the second order (Hong Kong, Singapore, Los Angeles, Chicago, Milan, Frankfurt on-Main) and third-order (Madrid, Sao Paulo, Vienna, Brussels, Seoul, Moscow and some others).
