The Impact of Universities on the Socio-economic Structure of the Cities: The Case of Agri Cities and Agri Ibrahim Cecen University

Summary/Abstract: Universities have many advantages known by everyone. In addition, it is an undeniable fact that they play a crucial role in regional development where they are established. This role escalates upward in non-industrialised areas that has agro-based economics. Several studies have previously revealed that universities significantly contribute to provinces in terms of economical and social-cultural aspects. This study aimed to evaluate the general economic and social conditions of Ağrı city in conjuction with revealing the contribution of Agri Ibrahim Cecen University to economic and socio-cultural development of the city of Agri. This research found that university although not sufficient contributes to economic and socio-cultural development in the city of Agri.
