Summary/Abstract: The article which is based on not previously published archive sources the problem of the formation of the Jewish intelligentsia on Grodno province territory (late XIX – the beginning of XX century) was comprehended. The conclusion was made, that in rapid conditions of westernization of traditional Jewish culture on the border of XIX–XX centuries in Byelorussian part of Jewish Pale of settlement, the opportunity to take new status positions was opened before youths who received secular education in state educational institutions. Intelligentsia become the subject of the formation of new traditions of everyday life and leisure. The way of Christian life become as a model for them. There was a change of Jewish onomastic model, dress and appearance. Understanding the values of the democratic Russian intelligentsia as the highest, they try to approach them in real life and to promote their way of life among co-religionists. Many of them demonstrate high level of public activity, work in charity, education and artistic communities, were engaged in politics. Communication between young Jewish intelligentsia and traditional Jewish circles was ruined. Just at the same time Jewish intelligentsia of Grodno province the border of XIX–XX centuries stayed strongly starved group, in which accept the progressive “core” the conservative “periphery” existed.
