Summary/Abstract: This paper aims at depicting the complex relation between the media and intelligence services. In an effort to present this interaction, the author uses the genesis approach as well as the historical method of research while, in order to explain these two close and complex systems, the author uses the comparative method. The main aims of this paper are to present the data gathered during the research and to analyze the information related to media workers’ assignments in gathering intelligence. The attitude toward the engagement of journalists in gathering intelligence, as opposed to the media theory and professional standards, is presented in a critical way. The author suggests the introduction of legal regulations as well as of a professional codex that could protect journalists from the influence of intelligence services.
