Summary/Abstract: Article is devoted to the genre specificity of songs by Brahms, constituting the classics of European chamber vocal repertoire. The features of individual compositional concepts genre songs in the works of the German author, and identifies artistic style of the works of Brahms in the performing aspect. The purpose of the article – to reveal the specifics of artistic and stylistic genre songs in the works of Brahms, which defines the approaches to performing the works of the German composer. Among the chamber and vocal heritage of Brahms songs occupy a very special place – this is the genre bears the idea of a romantic image of the German composer that is so often associated with the musical neoclassicism and "protective" attitude towards the "great" German musical tradition. Small genre of song is the line of creative consciousness Brahms, which embodied the highest ideals of German romanticism of the XIX century, associated with poetry folk art "sacred" understanding of national folklore. And this fact is due to the specificity of the artistic works of the German author, report their stylistic originality and appearance of individual features.
