Summary/Abstract: This paper presents some basic assumptions of two leading sociological and economical theories of fertility, second demographic transition theory, and microeconomic theory of fertility. These two theories are mostly presented as opponent, so author’s intent was to reconcile these theories issues regarding specific fertility transition in Serbia. Both theories assumptions were discussed as parallel as possible, for better comparison. It is obvious that some of theoretical prerequisites of long-term fertility decline in Serbia nave not emerged, but fertility transition yet happened, and that is an exact issue of this theoretical paper.
