Summary/Abstract: In our study, on the Hungarian database (N = 1,200 people) of a European research (MYPLACE project), based on an examination of the young (15 to 26 year-old) population, answer was seeked to these one question: how is can we characterize young people’s perception of democracy, and, what socialization factors most affect the interpretation of the concept. Examination of the interpretation of democracy was not carried out according to preliminary research designs but on the basis of social representation theory and one of its methodological possibilities (associations). The results suggest an anti-liberal democracy representation, one that can more be characterized by a negative content, and which shows links mostly to “hidden” political activity.
