Summary/Abstract: Socio-ethical views of A. Ferguson and D. Hume are analyzed in the context of alive practice of a civil society, and educational project of Enlightenment. Conventionality and artifice were defined by Hume as foundations for a social life. The author considers them as the basic principles of morality for a civil society.
