Summary/Abstract: The study starts by clearly stating that nowadays, world arena is a different one if we compare it with the situation 20 or 30 years ago. The author presents and comments some of these major changes, together with various academic, military and political opinions connected in a way or another with the future of NATO. The author seems to reject scenarios dealing with a global enlargement of the Alliance, but emphasizes the fact that NATO has the power potential – and the interests of all sorts – to expand cooperation at regional and global levels, in order to implement and support values and realities able to consolidate international stability and international security.
