Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to analyse the complicated relations between India and Pakistan, and the main causes of the ongoing conflict between the two countries on grounds of religious and ethnic differences, territorial dispute and political division. Strained relations resulting also from competition for military, economic, technological and nuclear influence in the region lead to an increase in security threats in the region of South Asia.
