Summary/Abstract: The article examines the evolution of the labour-intensive textile and clothing as well as leather and footwear industries in Hungary in the theoretical context of global commodity chains / value chains / and production networks mostly based on statistical data after the turn of the Millennium. It analyses the dynamics, structural changes and ways of integration of these sectors into the transnational production networks in the mirror of productivity, product structure and functions beyond the production. The presented local tendencies are placed into broader international context by comparing the Hungarian indices to the data of other East Central European and Southern and Western European countries. The material demonstrates the mid-term results of a re-search investigating the way in which semiperiheric regions are integrated into the international labour division within the labour-intensive industries as well as revealing the future perspectives of these economic activities in East Central Europe.
