Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to consideration of the role of well-known Ukrainian archaeologist K. V. Zinkovsky in studies of architecture of the Cucuteni-Tripolye culture. The history of investigation of the problem in question is briefly discussed. It is shown that K. V. Zinkovsky introduced a new conception to the interpretation of building remains of Cucuteni-Tripolye dwellings which was strongly different from reconstructions dominated until seventies of the last century. It has been recognized that most of Cucuteni-Tripolye surface houses had two- or even three-storey construction and wattle-and-daub walls although one-floor buildings also existed. The second important inference concerns the problem of destruction of the houses. According to the researcher’s opinion they were deliberately destroyed by conflagration due to ritual activities.
