Summary/Abstract: Purpose – Based on unique sample I investigate how workforce efficiency was affected by M&A trans-actions. Design/Methodology/approach – By using parametrical and non-parametrical tests three hypothesis were tested concerning workforce productivity (1) in target companies compared to industry benchmark (2) in acquiring companies compared to industry benchmark (3) pre versus post acquisition on consoli-dated basis. Findings – (1) Workforce productivity among target companies was lower the industry average (2) ac-quiring companies did not overperforme industry benchmark (3) on consolidated basis there was no change in the productivity after the transaction. Originality/value – First research in workforce efficiency after M&As in Poland. Results suggest that one of the reasons why mergers in Poland were unsuccessful might be poor workforce management and lack of synergy in this area.
