Summary/Abstract: The paper addresses the issue of the infinitive in Albanian language, recently the most problematized and disputed by both the linguists and pseudo-linguists for its exclusion from the standard. Through a general observation there is discussed what in fact is infinitive; there is discussed the syntax of the infinitive in the Gheg language zone and its avoidance in the standard Albanian; than about the for the question that successor is not a feature of gegelyes - as some of them proclaim even the issue that the infinitive is not a feature of entire Gheg dialect – as is proclaimed by some scholars, moreover in some Gheg spoken areas is very well known the formation of the future tense by using “do + koniunktiv /will + conjunctive”; then for the alternation of the infinitive with the conjunctive in the popular language literature on the North and for the infinitive in Balkan languages. As a result of this, it is proved that the so-called "Gheg infinitive" was ruled out of the standard not only because it is not generally present there but also because its functions are performed by conjunctions even in the Gheg speaking areas; moreover the inclusion of infinitive in the standard brings about the mixing of the systems. Therefore the idea that Gheg infinitive of the type “me punue/to work” can be included in the standard does not seem acceptable. Return of the infinitive of the type “kam me punue/have to work” would do little correction but greater harm. Finally, integration of the infinitive into the standard does not depend on linguists, as someone might think, but must first enter in the usage of the bearers of literary language.
