Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article – by the transformation of cultural-historical and artistic-philosophical factors into account, to analyze the main artistic foundations of the formation of dance theaters, in particular within the limits of expressionistic choreographic art and taking into account the creative searches of P. Bausch. The methodology of the research is to apply art-study, cultural studies and biographical approaches for the analysis of the theoretical, artistic and practical basis of the work of the leading German choreographer P. Bausch and its role in the development of modern trends in choreographic art. The scientific novelty consists in conceptualizing the notions about the fundamental aesthetic and theoretical aspects of the formation and valuable and artistic achievements of choreographic art of the 70s of the twentieth century, on the example of P. Bausch's creative research, which determined the formation of dance theaters and their relevance for modern choreography, in particular, in the context of increasing interest to dance art. Conclusions. P. Bausch is the founder of a new theatrical-dance direction – a dance theater. Emphasizing the intrasubjective aspect of human life, using the tragic and unethical forms of his choreographic embodiment on the stage, characteristic of German expressionist dance, she created a new theatrical-plastic language, which partly departed from the traditions of German choreography of the first half of the twentieth century. The ideas of P. Bausch and their practical implementation became the basis for the formation of new approaches not only to the choreographic art but also to the theatrical.
