Summary/Abstract: The role of the norm is to ensure the stability of the organization of social life and the functioning of thestate. The deviation from the legal norm, the penalty is the price paid for the deviation from the legal normby the coercive force of the state. The article aims to present aspects of the philosophy of ancient criminallaw, namely Plato’s thinking on The Laws, Book IX, to compare the role of the ancient criminal sanction,associated with moral education, with the relativity of the legal norm in modern and contemporary times.
