Summary/Abstract: The paper covers an urgent problem of linguistics: analysis of the results of the simultaneous and equally intense ways of language supplementation, i.e., morphemic and semantic derivation. The problem faced by linguists consists in search for particular examples proving that nominative units appear in the language as a result of the functioning of derivational affixes, which can shape different relations to what is meant by the stem, as well as without the use of formants during the process of word formation. The paper analyzes and generalizes a large layer of lexis, including personal names of different lexical and thematic groups. The lexemes have been grouped according to the way of generalization of new nominations; the main directions in the development of the semantics of derived words have been identified; the functional features of derivates have been found; the connotative component of derived words and source names has been revealed. The suggested methodology can be successfully used for analysis of lexical units from other layers of the Russian language, both derivational and semantic models of nouns and words belonging to other parts of speech. The consistent investigation of new words appearing in the Russian language will allow to continue the research with regard to other aspects associated with the theory of word formation, such as comparing the derived and source names based on their belonging to certain parts of speech.
