Summary/Abstract: This paper explores types of euphemistic formulations in the novel The Pilgrimage of Arsenije Njegovan written by Borislav Pekić. The mentioned corpus will be examined with regards to the lexical use of this figure of speech in an attempt to demonstrate that euphemism is a productive mechanism of polysemy in contemporary Serbian language. Although Pekić seldom uses euphemisms, he uses them in new linguistic situations, which enriches literary discourse both stylistically and linguistically. As the descriptive methodology used in this research shows us, not only does euphemism moderate the primary meaning of the word, but it also broadens it, thus achieving polysemy.
